Karlíncommunitycentre

The winning entry in an open competition. The centre completes a Karlín block with the corner the neighbourhood was missing: a hall for two hundred people, a library, club rooms and a café turn around a covered courtyard that stays open outside opening hours.

The structure is precast concrete with recycled aggregate; the fair-faced brick façade nods to the Karlín factories. A green roof and heat recovery keep running costs down — we handed the city a building that pays for itself.
